Registration is closed.

We are setting up the leaderboard and it should be live soon.

More spots are available

We have increased the number of available spots in each division due to demand.

If you have been waiting to register, please register as soon as possible.

Don't worry if you are in a small division -- we will combine divisions for heats if necessary -- that will be both more fun and more efficient with time.  Divisions will be seeded by previous results.

WE CANNOT TAKE SAME DAY REGISTRATIONS.  We need to be able to finalize heat numbers and equipment needs Friday for set up so cannot accommodate athletes registering on Saturday morning. Registration is easy and quick, so please register in advance!

REGISTERED ATHLETES CAN CHECK IN ALL DAY FRIDAY OR PRE THROWDOWN SATURDAY MORNING. You will get your arrival package, last minute details, etc.

CrossFit Chiang Mai will be available to athletes all day Friday to warm up, run through movements, etc.

Finally, we are planning an EIPC BBQ AND AFTER PARTY!  Plan on staying.  All registered athletes get a ticket to the BBQ. We're roasting a whole hog, but will have chicken if you don't do pork! Your ticket will also include free beer for the BBQ.

Here is a preview of our logo for the Throwdown -- thanks to Terri Rosen of Ohio Krav Maga and Fitness!

Update on registration

Registration is filling up!

Some divisions are already full, but there is space in others if you've not registered yet.  If you are interested in a specific devision that is full, you can still register for it, but you will be waitlisted for that division.  If someone drops out or changes divisions, you will get in.  You can then change divisions if you want later.

WE NEED MASTERS WOMEN!  Come on ladies, show the kids how it's done!  Just enter and at this point get one rep on each event and you'll place! :-)

Amanda Allen, winner of Masters division 40-45 at the CF Games.
We are basing our numbers in each division on heats of 5 athletes each.  If there is enough interest (e.g. 3+ athletes) who are wait listed in a division, we will open a new heat.

Current registration numbers are:

Update on divisions and movements

Rich -- 4 times CF Games winner -- goes Rx all the time! ;-)
We've had a lot of interest and questions about having a scaled division.  So we've transitioned the Teens division to "Scaled" for both men and women.

The Open and Masters divisions are now "Open Rx" and "Masters Rx" and will be at the same weights/standards.  The Scaled division will have weights scaled and movements scaled — but will still be challenging!

Here is a summary of the events and movements and standards for each division.

EVENT 1: Clean & Jerk Max

6 minutes to complete heaviest Clean & Jerk

No scaling, Rx and Scaled divisions will be the same standards — as heavy as possible within the division.

Heaviest weight in the division wins.

EVENT 2: 10 Minute AMRAP

Rx Division:

5 shoulder to overhead  -- 115# for men/ 75# for women
10 deadlift  -- 115# for men/ 75# for women

10 deadlift: -- 95# for men/55# for women
15 Box jumps: 24”/20”

EVENT 3: 2,000 m Row

No scaling, Rx and Scaled divisions will be the same, as fast as possible within the division.

Fastest time in the division wins.

EVENT 4: 15 Minute AMRAP

Event 4: The Chipper

The final event of the Thailand Throwdown will be on Sunday afternoon, starting at 1:00 PM. This is a long chipper, and should be somewhat familiar to people who did the CrossFit Open in 2014. We've added a bit/modified it, and it promises to be a great way to cap off the weekend of competition.

The new space at CrossFit Chiang Mai, and the venue for the Thailand Throwdown 2014!

EVENT #4: 15 minute AMRAP

As many rounds as possible of:

Rx Division:

  • WALL BALLS: The ball starts on the ground. Each rep requires squatting below parallel and the center of the ball hitting the 10 foot target.
  • TOES-TO-BAR: Both feet must hit the bar between the hands. Mixed grip, pull-up grip (hands facing out) and chin-up grip (hands facing in) are allowed.
  • CLEANS: The bar starts on the ground. The clean finishes with the barbell in the racked position, locked out with the shoulders, hips and feet parallel and the barbell under control. The barbell must return to the ground between each rep. Bouncing is not allowed, but touch-and-go is allowed.

Event #3 (Sunday morning): 2,000 m row

Event #3 will be a  2,000 meter row on Concept 2 Rowers.

The Throwdown will start on Saturday with two classic lifts from Olympic lifting, the Clean and Jerk. The second day, Sunday, will start with a classic test of speed and endurance — the 2,000 meter row.

We will be rowing in heats of 5, seeded based on current placement from the Saturday events.

While short, those who have done this before will know that the 2,000 meter row is no joke. The key to doing well in this event is pacing yourself well, focusing on good form, easy recovery strokes, and not coming out of the start too fast.

For competitors, get online to Concept 2 and do the test row to figure out your pace -- usually a 500 meter max effort.  You then can calculate your 500 meter splits off of that test row.

Damper setting is up to each competitor. In practice, be sure to try with different damper settings to find one that you like and which suits your body type (strength/height/leg length, etc.).  Lots of great resources at Concept 2, so be sure to spend some time there to figure out your strategy.

Event #2 and Event #4 coming up soon!

Resort/hotel in Chiang Mai

The Eco Resort & Hotel have offered to give participants and volunteers a special rate!

There are two branches -- the Eco Resort and the Imm Thapae.  The resort is in town (not far from The Riverside Restaurant on the east side of town) and the Imm Thapae is near Tha Pae gate in the old city.  The resort has a pool, nice grounds, and just a block away from some of the best street food and noodle shops in Chiang Mai.

Here are the discounts:

Eco Resort: Superior room, regularly 1,980 but discounted to 1,100 per room.  Shared bathroom rooms (hostel style) are discounted from 499 to 400.

Imm Thapae: Superior room regularly 1,400 discount to 950.

There are, of course, lots of other places to stay in Chiang Mai, but we are glad the Imm Eco is offering special prices to the Thailand Throwdown!

To get your discount, just tell them when you register and they will give you the discount.

Adding one more heat

People are registering, and we've heard from more who are planning on registering.

We are going to be adding one more heat to the Open division -- from 10 spots to 15.  That is a total of three heats each for men and women.

There are currently as of today 5 men and 5 women registered in the Open division. We have heard from many more who are planning on registering -- so as of today we have 10 spots each for men and women.

If you wait to register you may get wait-listed.  We will do our best to accommodate additional numbers, but we cannot let it get too big or we won't be able to run a great event.

Registration and events!

REGISTRATION IS LIVE!

People are already registering for the Thailand Throwdown 2014.

We have a limited number of spots, so register early.

WE WILL OPEN MORE SPOTS AS WE NEED TO.  If you get a "on the waiting list" message, wait to see if we add an additional heat (5 people/heat). We are working on fitting as many athletes in as we can, based on equipment limitations and how many heats we can manage.

EVENTS!

We are finalizing the events now.  We are working to provide a broad and inclusive test of fitness, and you will see familiar movements and skills in the Throwdown!  As we get a better sense of the number of registrations, we will be looking at our equipment and the number of heats needed to run the best possible competition.  We may make some modifications to the events, but hope to have them locked in soon!  Stay posted for more.
